Today, I’m guest blogging about what my Grade 6&7 writing students have taught me over at the wonderful Jennifer R. Hubbard’s site. Thanks for having me, Jenn.
And Now Let’s Give Something Away!
Gardening’s a BIG deal in Restoring Harmony and it’s that time of year again…time to get your hands in the soil, dig up those worms, and plant those seeds. And while fall seems a long way off, we’ll be eating the fruits (and veggies) of our labour before we know it.
To celebrate gardening, local food production, and sustainability, I’m giving stuff away. That’s right, you can win cool prizes to help your garden grow (or teach you how to cook your bounty).
To enter: Leave a comment, or send me an email through the contact page and tell me about your garden. If you don’t grow your own, you must still eat, right? Care to share your best vegetable recipe? I want it!
And now for bonus points!
Send me a photo of you in your garden, earn 5 extra points.
Send me a photo of you cooking vegetables, earn 5 extra points!
Bonus Bonus Points!
Send me a photo of you cooking vegetables in your garden, 10 extra points!
At the end of the week, I’ll draw a name from all the entries on this post (or via email). Teens get double entries, so if you’re under 18, make sure you let me know to add your name twice.
And now…for the prize! There will be one prize and it depends on where you live, which one you get.
Canadian Prize
6 packets of organic vegetable seeds, generously donated by Salt Spring Seeds
SAVING SEEDS by seed expert, Dan Jason
(or you can have the US prize instead)
US Prize (can’t send seeds across the border)
My favourite cookbook, Perfect Vegetables
Thank you so much for playing! I hope you will spread the word about this contest. If you tweet it or post about it anywhere on the web, include that in your comment too, for an extra entry. And everyone who enters this contest, also gets their name thrown in for the Grand Prize.
This contest ends Saturday, May 8th. Read the complete rules here.

Kelly is working in her garden. And in the second picture, apparently…she’s rubbing two sticks of celery together to make a fire…no, wait, she’s cooking large pieces of celery in a frying pan using…the sun? Good luck with that, Kelly.
Annika sent this great link to her garden post! Thanks, Annika.
I’m not really sure whether to count this picture at the very bottom or not, but Kelly assures me it is a photo of her cooking in the dark. She can’t turn the light on because everyone’s gone to bed and she doesn’t want to wake them. Do you all see her cooking in the dark?
My mom’s the gardener in the family. Every year she grows lots of vegetables in our backyard garden. Though this year she’s scaling back a bit. I know this year she’s growing strawberries, squash, tomatoes, green onions, beans, and some other Chinese vegetables I cant name.
My garden is a work in progress…growing up in the country I took for granted walking out in the field for a fresh tomato or beans…now I have a hard time paying at the grocery but my thumb is not so green! So this year I am starting my first starter garden with the help of my 93 year old neighbor who can grow anything! I LOVE Ms. Mary and I would love to win this to share with her!
Thanks,
Courtney
I love those photos of Kelly! Ha, ha. Cooking celery in the sunlight up on your misty island would only take half an eternity.
I retweeted your tweet about this contest. does that count?
I’ll share the book with Annika….
Changed my mind and blogged it instead of emailing. http://noirbettie.com/blog/?p=7783
Well the grass in my garden needs work it’s all horrid and patchy. As for my vegetable patch 😉 we have tomatoes, basil, parsley and lettuce and by we I mean Tom. If it were down to me they’d be in the same state as the grass. Green fingered I am not!
Those seeds sound great! I have a small vegetable garden that I started at the end of March. Today I transplanted leek, artichoke, and put in some onion sets. I will email you my photo entries!
Ooh, I want that book! (I really want the seeds, but I don’t think I can move to Canada by the 10th.) I will email you my entry!
