If you skip down a couple of posts, you’ll see the one about photographers posting daily pictures of where they live. I told author Cynthia Lord about it because her husband takes beautiful photos. Well, she loved the idea so much that she has asked writers to post one picture a day of their hometown for the next week on their own blog. She’s got a whole list of participants on her site now. I missed Cynthia’s post because of The Attack of the Killer Potatoes (you have to scroll down on the page this links to and read the second post to know what I’m talking about) and so I missed yesterday. I will post a picture today, but for really good artsy pics of our town, visit My husband’s daily pictorial blog.

Yesterday was Canada Day. We went to the beach where they have a potato cannon shoot off. Yeah, really! They shoot potatoes out into the water using these long tube cannons that they’ve made. Get this…they’re powered by spraying hairpsray into them and then lighting it with a lighter! And these are kids doing this! With a little help from parents. They have markers in the water and whoever shoots it the furthest wins. They are shooting across the strait and there’s a small island directly across from the beach called Mudge. One year when they started shooting, the Mudgekins (as they’re known) started waving white flags. Another year they fired back. <g> Today all was quiet on the Mudge front though. This is a photo of some of the spectators. Not much going on in the photo, but I thought it was kind of nice anyway.
Grinder spies on one of the twins. This was taken through the glass door as the mamas and babies are still leery of the humans (the other deer love us and are very friendly). I love how the daisy looks like one of the spots on the fawn – Hippie Deer!

This is how we’re fighting the high cost of gas. It went up from $1.44 to $1.52 per liter overnight (you’ll have to do your own math, but that’s a lot more than any of you are paying per gallon). Can you see that he has vegetable plants in the back of his pack? This picture was taken just before he took them over to plant in our plot at the community garden – our way of fighting the rising cost of food. Did I mention that we love it here?
