Tuesdays are topics that I think might be of interest to teens. I’m welcome to suggestions too.
Here in the South we have an opportunity to participate in Green Power Switch. We opt to pay a little extra each month on our power bill and then the power company uses the money to invest in renewable energy sources (like wind power). Recently, in North Carolina, a teacher asked her Environmental Science class to try to get their families to be more environmentally aware and to use power wisely. Nicholas Chris, 16, was so taken by the idea of renewable power that he approached everyone he knew and told them about Green Power Switch. He created a petition for his teachers, parents, and peers to pledge their support of Green Power Switch too.
“I’m interested in what we can do to help our world. It’s about time that we tapped our renewable resources. The more people who buy green power blocks, the more money there will be to build more renewable energy resources,” he says.
Go Nicholas Chris!
Here’s a tip of the day for all of you who are looking to save energy. Unplug your cell phone charger when it’s not in use. It continues to drain energy from the system, even when it’s not charging, if it’s left plugged in.

I agree. Kids have powers beyond their wildest dreams. There’s a link on the nonfiction page to the blurby story I wrote for Audubon about a kid who gets things done! And my Camp Fire group (Camp Fire Boys and Girls, like scouting for those who don’t know), did amazing things and they were first and second graders!
I think it is great that Nicholas did this- it is one thing to make a change and another to encourage others to join in.
