One of the fabulous things about being an author is you are hip to some really great books and often, people give them to you. I’m extra lucky because my sales rep is also a pal/neighbour of mine, and so she gives me loads of ARCs. I love this, as you might imagine.
However, don’t you ever wish you had time to reread old favourites? Sure, I’ll pick one up now and again, but my growing TBR pile, not to mention all the holds I have at the library, makes me think I should probably keep reading the books I haven’t read yet. Well, I’ve decided to designate February “Re-Read It Month” and for the next four weeks, I’m going to revisit some old loves of mine. I’m even going to suspend my library holds! I urge you to join me, even if you only want to reread one book.
Here are some of the ones I hope to get to this month:
THE YEAR MY SISTER GOT LUCKY by Aimee Friedman
THE ISLANDERS by John Rowe Townsend
A yet To Be Determined title from Nevil Shute, and one from Jane Austen
THE BORROWERS by Mary Norton
BETSY AND THE GREAT WORLD by Maud Hart Lovelace
CINDY by Deborah Kent (a Wildfire romance I’ve had since high school!)
DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS by CJ Omololu
TOM’S MIDNIGHT GARDEN by Phillipa Pierce
THE CRYSTAL CAVE by Mary Stewart
And whatever else strikes my fancy. If you’re joining in, tell me what you’re rereading! And feel free to spread the word. Maybe this will become a reading tradition.
I’m going to re-read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (though not in February–but I’ll read it by the time the second part of the 7th movie comes out in July), The Great Gatsby (I’ve read this several times–a lit degree MUST–but didn’t ever enjoy it until the last time I read it), and Pride and Prejudice (I always go for Emma when I’m needing a comfort read, but I’m in the mood for P&P).
Oh Tom’s Midnight Garden I love that book!
Great idea and I vote for Persuasion to be your JA re-read 🙂
I’m trying to re-read a book a month
If you’re going for Jane Austen, I’m in the middle of Northanger Abbey and finding it a scream. I read it first during my Jane period when I was in my 20s, but somehow it’s a lot funnier now!
I just started re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (reading aloud to my son — he’s read it several times already!), and I’d love another re-read of The Catcher in the Rye, so perhaps I can fit that in this month, too. The books in that large stack on the coffee table are awfully appealing, though…. 😉
