I’m on my way to Portland and then Cincinnati, and it seemed like a great idea to re-enact Molly’s journey from Restoring Harmony and then tweet about it so the teens & organizers in Cincinnati could follow me. Unfortunately, all did not go as planned! Kind of like for Molly, only so far, not quite as challenging.

Plan A – fly on  a float plane yesterday afternoon to Seattle, take the train that evening to Portland. Here I am in front of the float plane building. You can see a plane in the background.

Unlike Molly, I wasn’t sneaking on a government flight. I had a ticket! But it didn’t matter because guess what? Float planes don’t fly if it’s foggy. And Seattle to Victoria was socked in. So my flight was canceled.

We then moved on to Plan B. Here I am in front of the Victoria Clipper – a passenger ferry. I managed to get on the next sailing which was 6pm that night. They booked me a hotel, too, and are stars in my book! Or maybe my next book. Anyway, got to the hotel around 9:30pm after leaving my house at 6:15am.

Now I’m on the train, an hour away from Portland 27 hours after leaving home. So far I’m doing better than Molly. I still have my shoes, for one thing! And we didn’t have to walk to Olympia either. Of course, I’m not there yet. But the good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise, I will arrive in time for a visit with my family, and then on to Wordstock activities. Here’s my schedule for this weekend. Hope to see you there!

Saturday, October 13th @ 10:30-11:45am: Workshop – Writing Memorable Characters in YA

Joëlle Anthony teaches you how to create quick characters to get you writing, examines the character clichés that permeate books, and explains how to avoid them. Learn to make even the smallest character in your fiction well-rounded and memorable.

Saturday, October 13th @ 1pm: The Adult in YA panel & book signing

Sex, drugs, drinking, language and other things that readers tend to ignore in adult fiction can often get readers of YA all riled up. We’re here to discuss what’s appropriate, where the line should be, and if there even should be a line in YA fiction. Join us for what will undoubtedly be a lively debate! Panelist include myself, Steve BrezenoffKristen-Paige Madonia, and moderator, Erica Lorraine Scheidt.

Sunday, October 14th @ 11am: Presentation & book signing

Seattle author, Stephanie Guerra is scheduled for 11:30, so we decided to mix it up a bit and I’ll only present for about 20 minutes, followed by Stephanie, and then we’ll do a Q&A together. Double the fun! And the signing will be after that.

You can get ticket info here, or better yet, sign up to be a volunteer! Hope to see y’all there.
