Last week, I met some teens who were visiting Grandma here on the island. They ended up buying my book at the local book store (Yay, indie bookstores!) and then they emailed me to ask if I might sign it before they go home. Today, we met up at the yurt where my husband was doing a photography gig, and we had a private book signing! They graciously allowed me to share their smiling faces with y’all. Aren’t they cute? These BFF are Megan on the left, and Shaelah on the right. And they love to read! Yay, for readers.
I passed on a bit of my own swag, as well as some signed postcards and stickers I had from B.C. author, Denise Jaden. And I suggested they get their hands on some books by Iain Lawrence and also ones by Eileen Cook, who is practically a local author for them, as they live on the mainland and so does she. They probably know about Susan Juby already, but I meant to mention her too. I love to turn readers on to authors from their area. It makes reading personal, don’t you think?
Who are some of your favourite local authors?
We’ve got lots of great writers in Moscow! N.D. Wilson writes wonderful middle grade fiction, and Kim Barnes writes amazing adult fiction and creative non-fiction. Her husband, Robert Wrigley, is a most excellent poet, too. We’ve also got Mary Blew, Daniel Orozco, and Brandon Schrand, all of whom are well published and highly respected. We’re lucky, here in northern Idaho!
