I know y’all have been listening to me say for months, “I’m almost done with my WIP” only to have me come back later and say, “Umm…well, I read it and now I have a bunch more work to do…” And then I wrote here, “I sent it to my critique group!” and what I didn’t post here after I heard from them was, “you have more work to do.”
But now, I am very happy to say that today, just moments ago, I emailed off my finished mauscript to my agent!!!!
Now, we all know that eventually he’ll call me up and probably tell me that I have more work to do. But that’s okay because…and I know he won’t see this and get embarrassed because I’m pretty sure he only reads the posts that I send him links to and he feels obligated to read…but I never mind getting critiques from him because he is friggin brilliant at identifying problem areas!
Also, he treats his writers like we’re fragile (maybe some of us are, but I come from an acting world, so just shoot me down…I can take it) which is sweet. And the best part is he doesn’t tell me how to fix the troubled spots, he lets me work it out on my own. What is really hilarious to me is when I suggest outlandishly complicated solutions, he says something like, “that could work…” That’s when I know I have to go back to the drawing board.
But you see, people, this is where the beauty of the glacial speed of publishing comes in! Due to his already huge workload, and the fact that publishing grinds to a halt in December, I don’t have to worry about this manuscript for months!
I am declaring this an official Party with Pastries Day! I am even going to board the ferry and brave the big city so I can go to a real French bakery and indulge. I hope you too will grab a pastry and have a wonderful day!
P.S. Yes…I know the photo is of rolls and not pastry, but I MADE those rolls and my husband took the artsy pic, so I thought I’d share!
Congratulations I shall definitely help you celebrate from a far by eating pastries!
