Today I am on Galiano Island at their lovely bookstore doing a presentation to the school kids at 1pm. I’ll also be hanging out in the store, so if you happen to live there, drop on in and let’s have a chat about books! While Restoring Harmony is not set on Galiano, it was on Galiano Island that the seed for RH was planted. My husband read an excerpt from James Kuntsler’s THE LONG EMERGENCY that Rolling Stone Magazine had printed and someone had posted on a community bulletin board. We were so intrigued by this “end of oil” prediction that we bought his book. I only read about half of it (too scary!), but it was enough to get me thinking and Restoring Harmony was born about a year later (and about 500 drafts later, we have a book!).
For those of you interested in Peak Oil, you might check out this article in the New York Times. For those of you interested in an island vacation, check out this site about Galiano. And for those of you interested in their fabulous bookstore, check out this link.
And lastly, I’d like to leave you with this video because I’m a big fan of Malcom Gladwell’s books and even though he says right in Outliers, the 10,000 hour idea is not his original idea, he is helping to spread the word. Just like this video.
LOVED the video, thank you.
Enjoy the day at the bookstore with the kids…wish I were closer!
