🙁 I know that guilt is a waste of time, and generally, I just don’t do guilt. However, I write this blog that I hope people will read, and yet, I can’t read yours. It’s not that I don’t love you all, and it’s not that I’m too busy writing (I wish I was that disciplined!), it’s that reading on the internet makes me ill. I feel queasy, nauseous, headachy, and often dizzy even hours after I’ve left the internet.
The computer is not the issue. I can work in Word or other programs for ages without any trouble at all. My husband says it’s probably the scrolling, and he might be right, but whatever it is, I just can’t do it to myself anymore.
Writer Sara Zarr is taking the month off from blogging/tweeting/facebooking. What I’m going to do is take the month off reading blogs and see how it goes. So if you’ve got a great one, I’ll definitely miss you. And if you have the option where I can get an email of your blog posts (not Google Reader or Blogger Follower), and you can tell me how to do that so I can read it in Outlook, I will sign up for that! I get a few that way now, but I have not been able to figure out how to get all of the ones I like that way.
I’m also giving up reading Twitter as that usually involves a lot of scrolling, but I will probably post blog updates there anyway. So…please forgive me for not keeping up with your blog. I know it’s fascinating, just like you, but I’m trying to stay healthy!
By the way, I have a really great interview and very desirable ARC to give away this week, so make sure you come back for Wild Card Wednesday, even if you are mad at me for not reading your blog!
Hi Joelle,
I have the same problem–or I suspect it’s the same. It’s a sensory integration problem. I also can’t do movies where there’s a lot of fast action. I once spent a day reading blogs and suffered for it afterwards literally for weeks, alas. You can Google your symptoms and learn more, although there’s not an enormous amount that IS yet known about it. I still read blogs–I just don’t do it for hours without a break.
Joelle, I went to your Sunday Soup blog and discovered that you had a headache, and now after reading this all I can say is yikes. Oh, my. So sorry, and how weird, too, since it may just be the scrolling that creates the headaches. I for one do not mind if you don’t read my blog because I haven’t even posted in over a month. I had an indescribably good time on my month of travels. Many thanks! And please feel better soon!I’m so GLAD that you can still use Word for writing. Just don’t scroll, please, because we need your good words. I am in awe of Restoring Harmony. Awe.
🙂 No worries, Joelle. People can’t get mad at you–your book is too cool. I’m LOVING IT. Okay, now I have to get back to it. Talk to you soon!
