But you could pay me to write about living here. Heck, I’m writing about living here for free right now (but hopefully someone will pay me eventually). One of the notes my agent gave me was that I needed to work on my descriptions. Seems like they’re all clear in my head, but not so much on the page. Today, while I was writing about the house that my character visits, I realized that the images in my head weren’t actually as well defined as I would’ve claimed before (thus explaining my lack of being able to transfer that onto the page), so I went house shopping online. Now, not only do I have this clear picture of the house, I have a floor plan for each floor, square footage, and it gave me some good ideas for things I hadn’t thought of before. Cool, eh?
Cool! I love castles. I used to buy castle calendars…hmmm…why haven’t I done that it a while? John Rowe Townsend wrote a fab contemporary book that takes place in a castle. It’s called A Foreign Affair (It might have a different name in the US, that’s the British title).
I also had to search castles. Though I couldn’t get enough online so I went to my local children’s library. You can great great pictures of all kinds of structures and publishers seem to love showing buildings to kids from all sides.

I can’t see you in a McMansion. Something about you and the Mc don’t go together.
It’s good to be able to move through their houses with your characters. That way they don’t walk into walls when you think they’re walking through doors!
