Dear Mrs. Anthony,
Thank you for taking the time to contact my office with your support of reinstating Reading Is Fundamental into the FY09 Federal Budget. Your input is important to me, and I appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts.
As you said in your letter, ensuring that underprivileged children have the ability to access quality reading material is very important to their future mental development and their educational growth. In his FY09 budget, President Bush recommended eliminating funding for the Reading is Fundamental program, which was a cut of $25 million. As we work through the legislative and Congressional budget process, I look forward to further reviewing all provisions dealing with education in the FY09 Federal Budget. As I do so, I want to assure you that I will keep your concerns in mind.
Thank you again for your letter. I hope you will continue to share your thoughts with as I serve you in the United States Senate.
Sincerely,
Bob Corker
United States Senator
Reading is the best skill you can encourage someone to have- it opens up the world
