Today is the one year book birthday for Restoring Harmony! It’s hard to believe it’s been out for a whole year. Lots of great things have happened in the last 365 days too. I had several wonderful signings/release parties, made lots of new friends, caught up with old friends, got my first snail mail fan letter, and so many very kind emails from readers. Thank you all!
Because I was a professional actress, and also I’m a fairly outgoing person, speaking and promoting the book has come naturally to me. But honestly, except for school visits and meeting people at signings, I’d much rather be writing than promoting books. And that’s where so many of you have come to my rescue, which gave me a great idea for celebrating my book’s one year birthday. That, and an email from my pal, Kris Truelson.
He told me that his local library did not have Restoring Harmony, so he requested that they buy it. The Toronto Public Library is now the owner of NINE copies of RH, thanks to Kris! That got me thinking…. Is there a book you’ve been meaning to read? One you just can’t squeeze out of your budget? Or a favourite author you wish more people would discover? Why not check and see if your library caries that book/author and if they don’t, then request that they buy it. I’m not talking about RH (although, feel free if you want!), but any book or author. It’s a great way to celebrate a one year book birthday because by the time a book has been out for a while, it’s not likely the powers who be at the library will be thinking about it. They’ve already moved on to what’s hot now, or coming out soon. So today, I’m going to request that my library buy at least one or two books that I’ve been meaning to read. I’ll let you know what they are, once I decide. What are you going to request?
Happy book birthday!!! What a wonderful thing to be able to celebrate. And I love your idea of requesting books! I’m going to have to make a list…
