Too Lazy…

I’m too lazy to write much about all the books I’ve read over the last month while I’ve been away, so here’s a list. Do with it what you will. THE DAVINCI CODE – ummm…whatever…pretty good stuff for a long plane ride, but yeah…whatever…40 million copies???...

John Rowe Townsend and Jill Paton Walsh

Hi, All.Well, I’ve been away for a bit, but I have something cool to post. The reason I’ve been gone is because I’ve been to England to visit friends. For those of you who were reading this LJ last month, you will know that I was on a John Rowe Townsend reading binge...

The sexy list

I was just reading on Rachel Vater’s list an email someone sent her saying they read lots of YA and there’s no sex in it. Hmmm…not reading the same stuff as me. Here are a few that I added to her comments section. Just in case you’re...

King Creature, Come

Read KING CREATURE, COME over the last two days. It’s quite different from most of what JRT writes and it was a bit shocking to read after all these years because I didn’t really remember it at all. I liked it, but I have to keep this short. The...

JRT

I’ve got the husband reading John Rowe Townsend now. He’s a fan, but he’s only read a few of his books. I started him with GUMBLE’S YARD last night and he blew through it and is almost done. Would’ve kept going but it was 1am. He really...

THE SUMMER PEOPLE by John Rowe Townsend

There’s not much to say about THE SUMMER PEOPLE except that it’s a perfect book. I don’t even know why. It just is. Elegant and simple, straight forward and human, historical and yet absolutely relevant. Some said it better than me:A lovely story it...

Good-night, Prof, Love

Hello. Well, I had to skip the next book of JRT’s for now. It’s called NOAH’S CASTLE and is indeed one of my favorites. However, while the book I’m writing is TOTALLY DIFFERENT, it’s set in the future too, and I just don’t want to...

Goodnight, Prof Love

I’m now reading JRT’s GOOD-NIGHT, PROF, LOVE. It’s got such a great opening. I can hardly wait for dinner to be over (I’m cooking it at 10pm because we’re on actor’s hours here), so we can go to bed and read. Yay! I think when...

Translation please?

Hi, All.So, I’m now reading JRT’s HELL’S EDGE. It is set in a Yorkshire town and he has written a bunch of it in dialect. While he sprinkles dialect in in other books, this is quite heavy with it, and I think it is to show the difference between the...

genius

When my husband listens to really good music, he is inspired to pick up his guitar and practice. When he listens to genius music, he puts the guitar away and starts thinking about a trade job. When I read great stuff, I am inspired to write. When I read John Rowe...

A lifelong love affair

Well, anyone who’s been following this knows that I have been struggling to stay with my reading. I’m not sure if it’s just a disappointing array of books (I’m not including MIDNIGHT BLUE in that statement) or if I’m burnt out, but I...

Midnight Blue

MIDNIGHT BLUE is by Pauline Fisk, for those of you who wanted to know. I mean to include the author’s name, but sometimes the book is in the other room and I’m too lazy to go and look.cheers,Joelle

Not a lot…

I am not having a lot of success in the reading department. I am still considering that I might be a bit burnt out on it, but I don’t think so. I think I just have a bunch of clunkers in my pile! I am reading MIDNIGHT BLUE now, which won the Smarties Prize...

This is a RANT

This is a rant. Last night I was really mad, but today, we’ll see. The facts first:Tourette Syndrome does not have an ‘s on the end of it. That’s for any editors who might be reading this and are allowing their writers to use the term...

Burn out on reading?

I can’t decide if I’m a little burnt out on reading, or just not picking up very compelling stuff. The last few things I’ve read I’ve enjoyed, but they’ve taken me a long time to read. I just sort of pick them up here and there, but never...

on my other journal

Hi. It seems like most of the people who have friended me are on this list, and not my other LJ about writing, but I just posted something kind of fun there. I didn’t want to post it here too because that’s obnoxious for the people who have me friended...

I have been reading….

Hi. I have been reading, but not posting much about it. It’s because I’m torn between including the names of what I’ve been reading and saying what I liked about it, or posting about it without the titles so I can say what’s been driving me...

One last chance to help…

Hi, All. Me again, with one last plea for your vote for my friend Tracy in the Glamour/Toyota contest. Her nonprofit, www.angelheartfarm.com could really use the car because they could auction it off to help with their budget. Also, if they win, and you’ve ever...

NO PEACE FOR THE WICKED and one un-named book

I just finished reading NO PEACE FOR THE WICKED, which is the fourth book in the Pip Granger Soho series. I liked it very much, but it was a bit soppy. More than the others. Still, I enjoyed it, read it straight through instead of writing, and hope she writes more in...

TROUBLE IN PARADISE by Pip Granger

I’ve just finished reading TROUBLE IN PARADISE by Pip Granger. It is a prequel to NOT ALL TARTS ARE APPLE. If you haven’t read any of them, and are considering doing so, start with this one. I know some people think you should read them in the order they...

ANNIE ON MY MIND and THE WIDOW GINGER

I’m baaaaack! After so much writing I couldn’t really post. I also took a whole day off! Seriously! And I’m taking all Mondays off from now on. I cannot write 7 days a week just because it’s fun and I work from home. All work, no play, makes me...

FAT KID RULES THE WORLD

FAT KID RULES THE WORLD. Loved it. Loved how deep the characters were. Loved it but can’t write more because all I’m doing is my own writing and it feels like I’m doing it 24/7 so typing/emailing/posting just makes me more blurry-eyed than I already...

AL CAPONE DOES MY SHIRTS

Added it to my amazon order and basically bought it instead of paying shipping (cost me an extra .56 cents). Read it straight through in one sitting even though I read it when it first came out. It’s one of my favorites. If it’s slipped through the cracks...

THE SUMMER OF THE SKUNKS by Wilmoth Foreman

Can I just say that the only thing wrong with this book is that I’m done reading it already? It’s not a very long book, so I sort of dragged it out. It lends itself to that anyway because it’s got a nice, slow, hot-summer pace.I LOVED this book....
