As you may or may not know, I tried to take a week off reading last week. I lasted until Wednesday when I broke down and read:
CHOPPING SPREE by Diane Mott Davidson – fun, as always!
And then I held out until Friday when I listened to this:
I AM AMERICA (and so can you) by Stephen Colbert – lots of yelling, but funny.
And on Saturday I listened to:
BORN STANDING UP by Steve Martin (really, really good and the audio is read by Martin so it’s extra good)
And then I was back to reading ARCs.
PEACE, LOCOMOTION by Jacqueline Woodson, Jan. 2009 – OH BOY! This is knock your socks off good. There will be a write up in January right here.
(no cover available) PLUS by Veronica Chambers – April 2009 – very, very funny. And oddly enough, the second book about plus models in this group of ARCs (MODELS DON’T EAT CHOCOLATE COOKIES), although quite different from each other. Also, there will be an April review.
And in other news, I got an email from a publicity assistant at Simon and Schuster asking for my address so they could send me an ARC of a particular book! Plenty of authors ask me to review their books, but this is the first time I’ve had a publicists contact me. I generally turn down books offered by authors because I only write about books I love and so if an author sends me their book and I don’t review it, they’ll know I didn’t like it. I hate to hurt anyone’s feelings because there’s enough of that out there in the world already. But hey, publicists, send ’em on! It’s still true I’ll only write a good review or no review, but I don’t have to worry about hurting the author’s feelings if it comes from the publicist!
