I am very excited because today is a big day here on the island. All year, I have been working with students in a creative writing program once a week at the local school, and today they are having a book release party. That’s right! They’ve written books. I am so excited to see their final projects (so far, I’ve read some of the stories, but not seen the finished books). Tonight, they are going to read aloud from them in an event open to the public. Oh, heck, you don’t want to hear it from me! Instead, I’ll share the press release a couple of the students wrote.

A Hot Cup of Fiction – submitted by Emma and Natasha

Join students and writer-in-residence, Joëlle Anthony, for a night of fun and fiction. On June 2, at Mad Rona’s Coffee Bar, the Grade 6/7 class is having a creative book launch. Come grab a cup of coffee and enjoy some steaming fiction. It’s an evening of live readings of stories written by students ages 11-13.

2 June, 7:30pm, Mad Rona’s. Sponsors: PGS, GAC, PAC, and B.C. ArtStarts

Be sure to check back tomorrow for an update and photos. I’m taking my personal photographer along, so hopefully we’ll end up with some great action shots!
